Bud, you just don't get it. After documenting Sen. Mitchell's distinguished track record, Selig underscores, "Senator Mitchell has made 20 recommendations, all of which I will embrace... Those recommendations that I can implement independently, I will do so immediately." Amen!
But, a few sentences later, Selig states, "I am going to review each one of these [players] on a case by case basis"--even though Mitchell recommended not spending a single minute reviewing the circumstantial evidence contained in the report. Why the confusion? During Q&A, Bud revealed that he has yet to read the entire report! You had 3 days between receiving the report and his news conference this afternoon!?!? Three days where you had the exclusive right to review this report... perhaps the most sensational document since the Gospel of Judas surfaced in 2000.
You really are asleep at the wheel. And even though you're stretched too thin to read the Mitchell Report, how do you have the capacity to pick up where 22 months of focused work left off? Priorities Bud(dy).
When will the commissioner be held accountable? Head coaches are fired after a couple losing seasons. You've had over a decade's worth of losing season. Owners, give him the heave-ho!

Past Time
An Era Draws to a Close: Can the MLB Move Forward?
It's the holidays. That means jingles... like Deck the Halls. Speaking of decking the halls, as of today, there are no MLB players from the past decade that are On Deck for the Hall of Fame. The Mitchell Report is now available... and there are names. All-stars and September call-ups. Mitchell, after weighing the pros and cons, opted to publish the list of names in recognition of the failed policies of the past decade plus. For proof though that steroids don't automatically make one an all-star, look no further than Marvin "I swing through every eye-high fastball" Benard. However, he also cautioned that it is a partial list with dozens names already retired and, thus, outside the reach of the MLB for punishment.
In the holiday spirit, Mitchell recommended to grant a form of amnesty to all past offenders. I could not be more supportive. The bungling league officials stuck their collective heads in the sand even when faced with striking evidence of steroid/HGH use through the late 90's and early 00's. There's little reason to be mired in the past to create an MLB McCarthy List of Cheaters. Instead, hopefully the league office moves quickly to enact best practices to combat drug use; and then channels their energy to seek acceptance and adoption from the MLB Players Association.
If misery loves company... Bonds must be enjoy finally be teamed up with 7 time Cy Young winner, Roger Clemens. Maybe Bonds DHing with the Yankees in '08?

Facebook just removed the word "is" from the status update! FREEDOM!!!
No longer is my status incarcerated by two itsy-bitsy characters, the most meager of verbs... R.I.P. oh, except the early returns are that my 2/3rds of my facebook friends that have updated their status subsequent to the programming change have opted to maintain "is" in their status. Where's the adventure???
This microblogging stuff is great... but vapid?
Mother Nature is...
Driving home tonight, I saw my first shooting star in a long time!
(I thought I would try my hand at microblogging to see what all the fuss is about... for the uninitiated, including me as of yesterday, microblogging is a simple, condensed message initiating lightweight communication.)
Is a shooting star Mother Nature's way of microblogging with us? crystal clear, succinct... like Mother Nature's status update directed at those curious enough to be staring up at the darkened sky.

Captain Comeback --> Commander Chimera
Fall Saturdays finally have meaning to Stanford grads. No longer will we use our Saturday afternoons to hike the dish, to go on scavenger hunts, or to toss a disc at the Oval. For disclosure... I was actually attending my first ever yoga class at kickoff. Why would I ever think to park my keyster on the couch to watch this game considering we lost by 38 points at home last week... after not having scored an offensive touchdown in over 6 quarters... and playing the #1 team in their house? We were a 6-touchdown underdog. The online sportsbooks were setting the odds of a Cardinal victory at over one in a hundred. Our chances were basically Slim and none and Slim just walked out the door.
But that's why you play the game.
The Sports Guy just penned an article on the Levels of Losing (basically the 21st century sports version of the Divine Comedy and the 9 Circles of Hell. Well, I'm a glass full kind of guy; so let's flip the script. Where does this rank in terms of sweet victories????
Psych! I'll let the talking heads knock their noggins together to analyze, scrutinize, and categorize. For me, i'll just savor this win... mmmmm, tasty! the sweetest parts... 1) All kal fans were rooting for stanford. this never happens. kal athletes don't even wear red, ever, because they possess such hatred for the Cardinal. the putative rationale is that kal wants to be the #1 team in the country and as of saturday AM only two teams were ahead of them. but kal will be playing against U$C in a few weeks... so what is the rush to get to #1 now? hmmmm. 2) I received more texts/calls after the game than on my birthday. Although not one communique was from a Stanford GSB classmate... maybe they're just waiting for the Big Game upset before jumping on the bandwagon.... two victories against #1 ranked teams in one year??? you read it here first.
